Help!
Does it really gets on your nerves when you have spent time cleaning the house for the kids to come in from school, like a whirlwind, only to mess it up again!?
Is there anything we can do?
The answer is (luckily) a big fat YES!
Watch the video and then refer to the lists of age appropriate jobs below.
Good luck 😀

Remember every housekeeping skill you teach your kids will help them to become more independent and better able to cope when they eventually leave home.
(sob – OK let’s not think about that! Let’s pretend they are going to be babies forever!!)
Here are some suggestions of some age appropriate jobs for the kids:
For kiddies under 10
- Make bed in the morning. If you can, try and position the bed in their room so that it is easy to make, i.e. not pressed tightly against a wall.
- Tidy their toys after playing with them.
- Help lay the table
- Help clear the table
- Put dirty clothes in the washing basket
- Use a dustpan and brush to clear up crumbs off the floor after eating
- Pair socks
10 – 16 years
All of the above plus:
- Dusting
- Hoovering
- Make them responsible for the tidiness of their own bedroom – add regular inspections if you want 😀
- Strip their bedsheets ready for washing
- Prepare a simple meal like beans on toast or a sandwich
- Weeding the flower beds
16 years +
All of the above plus:
- Ironing
- Changing their bed sheets
- Empty and load dishwasher
Final word: Totally your call whether or not you want to incentivise them with pocket money/treats/screen time etc. 🙂 😉
If you can next write about how to get Hungry Hubby to instinctively know what needs doing, and do it, I will worship at your feet forever lol! 🙂
HaHa 🙂
