Help!

Does it really gets on your nerves when you have spent time cleaning the house for the kids to come in from school, like a whirlwind, only to mess it up again!?

Is there anything we can do?

The answer is (luckily) a big fat YES!

Watch the video and then refer to the lists of age appropriate jobs below.

Good luck 😀

Remember every housekeeping skill you teach your kids will help them to become more independent and better able to cope when they eventually leave home.

(sob  –  OK let’s not think about that! Let’s pretend they are going to be babies forever!!)

Here are some suggestions of some age appropriate jobs for the kids:

For kiddies under 10

  • Make bed in the morning. If you can, try and position the bed in their room so that it is easy to make, i.e. not pressed tightly against a wall.
  • Tidy their toys after playing with them.
  • Help lay the table
  • Help clear the table
  • Put dirty clothes in the washing basket
  • Use a dustpan and brush to clear up crumbs off the floor after eating
  • Pair socks

10 – 16 years

All of the above plus:

  • Dusting
  • Hoovering
  • Make them responsible for the tidiness of their own bedroom – add regular inspections if you want 😀
  • Strip their bedsheets ready for washing
  • Prepare a simple meal like beans on toast or a sandwich
  • Weeding the flower beds

16 years +

All of the above plus:

  • Ironing
  • Changing their bed sheets
  • Empty and load dishwasher

Final word: Totally your call whether or not you want to incentivise them with pocket money/treats/screen time etc. 🙂 😉
